The Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Product Developer with strong garment technical expertise to join our e-commerce fashion brand. In this role, you will work closely with the design, sourcing, and production teams to bring creative concepts to life, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality, fit, and functionality.
As a key member of the product team, you will play a pivotal role in translating designs into technically sound garments, managing the development process from initial concept to final production, and supporting our mission of creating feel-good, inclusive fashion for all stages of womanhood.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development
- Collaborate with our Design Manager to develop garment prototypes and translate creative concepts into commercially viable products.
- collaborate and maintain accurate product specifications, including tech packs, measurements, fabric details, and construction methods.
- Oversee sample development, providing feedback to ensure designs align with the brand’s aesthetic and technical standards.
- Manage the critical path to ensure products are developed and delivered on time for seasonal launches.
- Manage outgoing and incoming packages to and from vendors, distribute/get all packages ready for internal review.
Critical Path
- Manage multiple product development timelines with a focus on efficiency and results.
- Ensure projects align with customer requirements and are delivered on schedule.
- Maintain detailed documentation of development processes and testing outcomes.
Costing
- Provide target prices at Tech Pack handover stage and provide costing knowledge to designers, to ensure the best possible prices without compromising the quality.
- Collate costings to review aligned with all product milestone, maximising profitability and quality
Technical Expertise
- Conduct fittings to evaluate garment fit, construction, and functionality and clear communication back to factories
- identify and future proof any potential production issues, offering solutions to ensure garments meet quality and cost objectives.
- Stay up-to-date on new fabrics, technologies, and industry trends to continuously improve product development processes.
Sourcing & Fabric Testing
- Source and manage fabrics, trims, and other materials, ensuring premium quality and sustainability & testing standards.
- Manage all fabric, trim and sample approvals with Founder and Design team ensuring milestone deadlines are maintained
- Conduct rigorous testing for strength, comfort, and durability.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships to ensure high-quality resources.
Supplier Management
- Liaise with all partners to ensure clear communication and alignment on expectations
- Review and approve samples at each stage of development, ensuring quality standards are met.
- Support production and address any technical issues that arise and maintain consistency in quality across all products.
Quality Assurance
- Collaborate with tech team to establish and maintain garment quality standards.
- Support with quality checks on pre-production and production samples, addressing any issues promptly.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the design, sourcing, and merchandising teams to ensure product alignment with brand goals and market demands.
- Provide technical expertise during design reviews and ensure smooth communication between creative and production teams.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in product development or garment technology within the fashion industry, preferably in multi-product womenswear.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction and fit.
- Proficient in creating and managing detailed tech packs and specifications.
- Experience working with factories and suppliers, with a clear understanding of production processes and timelines.
- Knowledge of fabrics, trims, and finishing techniques.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and PLM software (or similar tools).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
- Experience in developing inclusive, size-diverse garments.
- Familiarity with sustainable fabrics and ethical production practices.
- Background in a direct-to-consumer (DTC) or fast-paced e-commerce environment.
